mHealth – What is it?
“mHealth” or Mobile Health is part of electronic health or “eHealth,” and is the use of handheld electronic devices, such as cell phones and tablets, used to communicate between healthcare providers, public health, and individuals. This first video discusses the World Health Organization’s 6 initiatives for mHealth, including use in public health emergencies, such as the Ebola outbreak in Nigeria, and medication reminders, such as SIMpill. It also reviews the Gates Foundation’s funding of low-cost existing technology for public health concerns, such as vaccinations.
