Covid-19: Malaysia’s recovery on track, infectivity rate decreasing, says Health DG

Despite daily three-digit Covid-19 infection figures in the country, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says Malaysia is on the road of recovery.

Dr Noor Hisham said that on Saturday, adding that this meant that the conditional movement control order (MCO) has a positive effect on reducing the infectivity rate, or known as the R nought (R0) level.

The Health Ministry is now targeting to reduce the infectivity level to 0.3.

Demands on our health service are ever increasing. This will continue to have a negative impact on people with chronic health conditions, who may feel forgotten, uncertain and afraid.
Psychologist and software designer Dr Craig Newman thinks the answer could lie in technology, which has the potential to hand power back to the patient.

Craig Newman is a Clinical Psychologist and software designer. He divides his time between treating patients with chronic neurological conditions and developing innovative services and international award winning Apps to improve detection, monitoring and care of his patients.

Craig is the Mobile Health Innovation Lead and Senior Research Fellow at Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry and Clinical Psychologist in the Neuropsychology department at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. He gained a PhD in Applied Behavioural Economics at Keele Medical School, before completing a doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Plymouth University.

To mark the World Press Freedom Day 2020 on May 3rd and in partnership with the European Union, Internews in Malaysia with the collaboration of the National Union of Journalists organised a webinar on May 5th. Titled, ‘World Press Freedom Day Webinar: Information Saves Lives – Humanitarian and Health Reporting During Covid-19 in Malaysia’, the online session was a response to the ongoing media coverage surrounding COVID-19, with a lens on the far-reaching humanitarian and community-related impacts of this pandemic.
